Paying for Parking — Marginal Revolution →
This is really fascinating, especially the part about using networked parking meters to create a “market” for parking fees, and splitting the proceeds with the residents of neighborhoods where side-street parking is popular.

I wish it was always this easy to dump businesses that don’t have my best interest at heart.

This appeared at the top of my Facebook page today. Kudos to Facebook for trying to help Facebook users understand that they are the product and advertisers are the customer, but do note that Facebook glosses over some details about how they run their business.

People, causality is fucking complex. Not at the level of Newtonian physics, but when dealing with complex systems like human beings, planets, and cultures, causality is complex!
With some questions, there are tools to help arrive at answers, but with the more complex questions I believe the available tools are still inadequate.

The Spielberg Face on Devour.com →
Just great! Steven Spielberg has earned my ire by just ruining some potentially good sci-fi shows this year (Terra Nova and Falling Skies), but this is an interesting exploration of his signature move.

As I’m writing some text for a large corporation on the subject of gifts/bribery, I’m reminded that gift giving has both a light, fun, loving side, and a more potentially sinister side that can be used to influence the recipient and comprimise their objectivity.
